The Six Pillars of Character and Awkward Apology Letters

By Monica Nelson Our young son has been in his share of trouble. Mostly, at school, but other places too. As part of his discipline regimen, we (started by the school) have required him to write apology letters to the people he has hurt. The school on several occasions, when he seemed to care little for what was happening to him, added another consequence in the form of writing out the Six Pillars of Character. For those who are not familiar with these, they are Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship, along with a description of what each of those mean in terms of behavior.
